  • 10 oz jar maraschino cherries, drained, reserve liquid
  • 1 box devil’s food cake mix
  • 1 cup cola
  • ½ cup vegetable oil
  • 3 eggs, room temperature
  • 1 cup butter, softened
  • 3 cups powdered sugar
  • ¼ cup reserved cherry juice
  • Optional: sprinkles or chocolate shavings

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F. Line muffin pans with cupcake liners.
  2. In a large bowl, mix devil’s food cake mix, cola, cherry liquid, vegetable oil, and eggs until just combined.
  3. Fill cupcake liners two-thirds full and place a maraschino cherry in the center of each.
  4. Bake for 20-22 minutes until a toothpick comes out clean. Cool completely.
  5. For frosting, cream softened butter and gradually add powdered sugar. Mix in reserved cherry juice until fluffy.
  6. Frost cooled cupcakes with cherry frosting and decorate as desired.
