  • Blue gel food coloring
  • Red gel food coloring
  • 1 cup white chocolate chips
  • 1 cup salted butter (softened)
  • 45 cups powdered sugar
  • 57 tbsp heavy cream
  • 1 tbsp lemon juice
  • 6 pieces red pull-and-peel licorice
  • Patriotic sprinkles

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F and line a cupcake pan with liners.
  2. Prepare the cake mix according to package instructions.
  3. Divide the batter into three bowls; color one blue and one red using gel food coloring, leaving the third bowl plain.
  4. Fill cupcake liners ¾ full with alternating colors for a layered effect.
  5. Use a toothpick to swirl colors lightly for a marbled look.
  6. Bake for 18–21 minutes until a toothpick comes out clean.
  7. Melt white chocolate in intervals in the microwave; let it cool.
  8. Beat softened butter until creamy; gradually add powdered sugar, heavy cream, and lemon juice until combined.
  9. Mix in cooled melted chocolate until desired consistency is reached.
  10. Frost cooled cupcakes with piping bag and decorate with sprinkles and licorice.
