Ingredients

Scale
  • 23 pounds of chicken (whole chicken, wings, thighs, or drumsticks)
  • 12 carrots, chopped
  • 12 celery stalks, chopped (optional)
  • 1 small sweet potato or pumpkin chunk (optional)
  • 810 cups of water
  • 1 tablespoon apple cider vinegar

Instructions

  1. Prepare the ingredients by chopping the carrots, celery (if using), and sweet potato or pumpkin into bite-sized pieces.
  2. In a large pot, combine the chicken pieces and chopped vegetables. Add the apple cider vinegar to aid in flavor extraction.
  3. Pour in enough water to cover the ingredients by about 2 inches.
  4. Bring the pot to a gentle boil over medium heat. Once boiling, reduce to low heat and simmer for 2-4 hours.
  5. Allow the broth to cool completely before straining.
  6. Use a fine mesh strainer or cheesecloth to separate the liquid from solids; discard solids after straining.
  7. Carefully debone the chicken pieces and shred the meat into small portions suitable for your dog.
  8. Store the broth in airtight containers in the refrigerator for up to 4 days or freeze for up to 3 months.
