Ingredients

Scale
  • 12 oz penne pasta
  • 1 lb Italian sausage (mild or spicy)
  • 1 medium onion, diced
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 cups chicken broth
  • 1 cup BBQ sauce
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 1.5 cups shredded sharp cheddar cheese
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add diced onions and sauté until translucent (3–4 minutes). Stir in minced garlic and cook until fragrant (about 1 minute).
  2. Remove casings from the Italian sausage and add it to the skillet. Brown the sausage until cooked through (5–7 minutes), breaking it apart as it cooks.
  3. Stir in uncooked penne pasta, chicken broth, BBQ sauce, smoked paprika, salt, and pepper. Bring to a boil.
  4. Reduce heat to low and cover the skillet. Simmer for 12–15 minutes until pasta is al dente, stirring occasionally.
  5. Stir in heavy cream and half of the shredded cheddar cheese. Allow to simmer for another 2–3 minutes until well combined.
  6. Sprinkle remaining cheddar cheese on top and cover again until melted (about 2–3 minutes).
  7. Garnish with fresh parsley before serving.
