Ingredients

Scale
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 1 teaspoon instant yeast
  • ¾ cup warm milk
  • 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
  • ½ teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 lb beef (short rib, chuck roast, or flank steak), finely chopped
  • 1 tablespoon sesame oil
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon fresh ginger, grated
  • ¼ cup soy sauce
  • 2 tablespoons hoisin sauce
  • 1 tablespoon rice vinegar
  • 1 teaspoon cornstarch mixed with 1 tablespoon water
  • 2 green onions, finely sliced

Instructions

  1. In a mixing bowl, combine flour, sugar, yeast, and warm milk. Mix until a dough forms.
  2. Knead the dough for about 8-10 minutes until smooth. Cover and let it rise in a warm place for about an hour or until doubled in size.
  3. While the dough rises, heat sesame oil in a pan over medium heat. Add garlic and ginger; sauté until fragrant. Stir in beef and remaining filling ingredients; simmer for about 10-15 minutes until tender.
  4. Punch down the risen dough and divide it into equal portions. Roll each portion into discs and add a spoonful of filling before sealing.
  5. Arrange buns on parchment-lined steamer trays and steam for about 12-15 minutes until fluffy.
