Ingredients
  

Cracker Base
  • 1 box saltine crackers or any plain crackers
Caramel Sauce
  • 1 cup brown sugar packed
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter cut into pieces
  • 1/4 cup light corn syrup
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
Topping
  • 1 cup chocolate chips optional
  • 1/2 cup chopped nuts optional

Method
 

Prepare the Baking Sheet
  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
Make the Caramel
  1. In a saucepan over medium heat, combine brown sugar, butter, and corn syrup. Stir until the mixture comes to a boil.
  2. Allow to boil for 5 minutes without stirring, then remove from heat and stir in vanilla extract.
Coat the Crackers
  1. Arrange the saltine crackers in a single layer on the prepared baking sheet.
  2. Pour the caramel sauce evenly over the crackers, ensuring they are well coated.
Bake
  1. Bake in the preheated oven for 10 minutes, until bubbly.
  2. Remove from oven and let cool for a few minutes.
Add Toppings
  1. If desired, sprinkle chocolate chips and chopped nuts over the warm caramel crackers.
  2. Allow to cool completely before breaking into pieces.
