Cake Preparation
  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease two 9-inch round cake pans.
  2. In a bowl, mix flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt. In another bowl, whisk eggs, milk, melted butter, and vanilla. Combine wet and dry ingredients without overmixing.
  3. Pour batter into pans and bake for 25-30 minutes until golden brown. Let cool.
Custard and Glaze Preparation
  1. For the custard, heat milk in a saucepan. Whisk egg yolks with sugar and cornstarch; slowly add hot milk to prevent curdling. Cook until thickened (5-7 minutes) and add vanilla.
  2. For the glaze, melt heavy cream with chocolate chips until smooth.
Assembling the Pie
  1. Place one cake layer on a plate, spread custard on top, add the second layer, and drizzle with chocolate glaze.
