Making the Meatballs
- In a large bowl, combine ground beef, Italian sausage, breadcrumbs, Parmesan cheese, garlic, parsley, egg, salt, and pepper. Mix gently until just combined.
- Shape mixture into meatballs about 1 inch in diameter and place on a parchment-lined baking sheet.
- Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium heat. Sear meatballs on all sides until golden brown (8-10 minutes). Remove and set aside.
Preparing the Sauce
- In the same skillet, sauté chopped onions until translucent.
- Add minced garlic and cook briefly until fragrant.
- Pour in canned tomatoes and sugar; season with salt and pepper. Let simmer for 15 minutes.
- Return meatballs to the skillet, cover, and simmer on low for another 30 minutes.
