Ingredients

  • 1 lb lean ground beef
  • 1 medium onion, finely chopped
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tsp ground cumin
  • 1 tsp ground coriander
  • 1 tsp chili powder
  • 1 package (17.3 oz) puff pastry or dumpling wrappers
  • 2 cups vegetable oil for frying
  • Salt to taste
  • Pepper to taste

Equipment

  • Pan
  • Deep Skillet
  • Rolling pin
  • Baking sheet

Method

  1. Heat a pan over medium heat and add a splash of vegetable oil. Sauté the chopped onion until soft and translucent.
  2. Stir in the minced garlic, cumin, coriander, and chili powder; cook until fragrant (about 1 minute).
  3. Add the ground beef to the mixture, season with salt and pepper, and cook until browned and crumbly (about 7-10 minutes). Drain excess fat if necessary.
  4. Roll out puff pastry on a floured surface and cut into circles (about 3 inches in diameter). Place a spoonful of filling on each circle, fold over to create half-moons, and seal the edges tightly.
  5. Heat vegetable oil in a deep skillet over medium-high heat (around 350°F). Fry sambusas until golden brown on both sides (approximately 3-4 minutes per side) and drain on paper towels.
  6. Serve hot with dipping sauces like spicy mayo or yogurt sauce.
