Ingredients

  • 2 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil Adds depth of flavor
  • 1 medium onion Finely diced for a sweet and savory base
  • 3 cloves garlic Minced to infuse the sauce with aromatic goodness
  • 1/3 cup tomato paste Provides concentrated tomato flavor
  • 1 cup low-sodium chicken stock For added depth without overwhelming saltiness
  • 1 15-ounce can diced tomatoes Adds texture and freshness
  • 1 tablespoon sugar Balances the acidity of the tomatoes
  • 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning Enhances overall flavor
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt Enhances all other flavors
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground black pepper Adds a hint of spice
  • 1/3 cup heavy cream Gives the sauce its creamy finish

Method

  1. In a medium pot, heat the olive oil over medium-high heat. Add the finely diced onions and minced garlic, cooking for about 4-5 minutes until the onions become soft and translucent.
  2. Add in the tomato paste and let it cook for 1 minute, stirring continuously to meld its intense flavor with the sautéed vegetables.
  3. Pour in the chicken stock, diced tomatoes, sugar, Italian seasoning, salt, and black pepper. Bring this mixture to a boil before reducing it to a simmer. Allow it to cook gently for 15-20 minutes so that all of those lovely flavors can combine beautifully.
  4. Stir in the heavy cream during the last two minutes of cooking, allowing it to warm through and create that luscious creamy texture.
  5. Once your Easy Ravioli Sauce is ready, serve it generously over your cooked ravioli or any pasta of choice.
