Ingredients
  

Dough
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour plus more for dusting
  • 1 cup milk warm
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 packet active dry yeast
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter melted
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 tablespoon cocoa powder
  • 1 teaspoon red food coloring
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
Filling
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar packed
  • 2 tablespoons cinnamon
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter softened
Frosting
  • 4 ounces cream cheese softened
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter softened
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Method
 

Prepare the Dough
  1. In a mixing bowl, combine warm milk, sugar, and yeast. Let it sit for 5 minutes until frothy.
  2. Add melted butter, egg, cocoa powder, red food coloring, and salt. Mix well.
  3. Gradually add flour, mixing until a soft dough forms. Knead for about 5 minutes until smooth.
  4. Cover the bowl with a damp cloth and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour, or until doubled in size.
Make the Filling
  1. In a small bowl, mix together brown sugar, cinnamon, and softened butter until well combined.
Assemble the Rolls
  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Once the dough has risen, roll it out on a floured surface into a rectangle about 1/4 inch thick.
  3. Spread the filling evenly over the dough, then roll it tightly from one end to the other.
  4. Cut the rolled dough into 12 equal pieces and place them on a greased baking sheet.
  5. Cover and let them rise for another 30 minutes.
Bake the Rolls
  1. Bake in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes, or until golden brown.
  2. Remove from the oven and let cool slightly before frosting.
Prepare the Frosting
  1. In a mixing bowl, beat together cream cheese, butter, powdered sugar, and vanilla extract until smooth.
  2. Spread the frosting over the warm cinnamon rolls before serving.
