Method
Cook Pasta
- In a large pot, bring salted water to a boil. Add elbow macaroni and cook according to package instructions until al dente. Drain and set aside.
Make Cheese Sauce
- In the same pot, melt butter over medium heat. Whisk in flour and cook for 1-2 minutes until golden.
- Slowly whisk in milk, stirring constantly until the mixture thickens, about 5 minutes.
- Remove from heat and stir in cheddar and Monterey Jack cheeses until melted and smooth. Season with garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper.
Combine and Bake
- Add the cooked macaroni to the cheese sauce and stir until well combined.
- Transfer the mixture to a greased baking dish. In a bowl, mix breadcrumbs and Parmesan cheese, then sprinkle over the top.
- Bake in a preheated oven at 350°F (175°C) for 20 minutes until golden and bubbly.
Serve
- Remove from oven, top with crumbled bacon and chopped green onions. Let cool for a few minutes before serving.
