Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • 3/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 2 tsp baking powder
  • 1 1/2 tsp baking soda
  • 1 tsp fine salt
  • 1 cup warm water
  • 1 cup full-fat sour cream
  • 1/2 cup vegetable oil
  • 2 large eggs
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 cup creamy peanut butter
  • 7 cups powdered sugar
  • 1/3 cup heavy whipping cream
  • 2 cups chopped Reese's peanut butter cups

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  3. Create a well in the center and add warm water, sour cream, vegetable oil, eggs, and vanilla extract. Mix on medium speed until smooth.
  4. Divide the batter evenly between prepared pans. Bake for 24-26 minutes or until a toothpick inserted comes out clean.
  5. Allow cakes to cool for 10 minutes in pans before transferring to wire racks to cool completely.
  6. For the frosting, beat together room temperature butter and creamy peanut butter until light and fluffy. Gradually mix in powdered sugar and heavy whipping cream until desired consistency is reached.
  7. Assemble the cake by layering frosting between cooled cake layers and on top and sides of the cake. Decorate with chopped Reese's cups.
